What a clip
Hi, I’m Aaron, and dogs have been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. What started out as a love for my own pets quickly grew into a career – and now a full-time passion – as a professional dog groomer.
Grooming has always been more than just a job for me. I love the creativity that comes with styling each dog to suit their personality, but even more than that, I love the trust that builds between groomer and dog. No two grooms are ever the same, and I take pride in making sure every dog leaves not only looking their best, but feeling happy, relaxed, and cared for.
In 2015 I started my salon, What a Clip, in Prudhoe, Northumberland. It was a huge step, but one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The salon has become a space where dogs and their owners feel welcome, and where I get to do what I love every single day. My own Scottie, Esther (and my angel Scottie’s Skye, Gloria and Tilly) have never far from the action – they’ve definitely inspired my love of terriers, and they have all kept me on my toes over the years! There’s big things coming soon too with expansion on the horizon.
I can hardly believe it’s been 12 years since I first picked up a pair of grooming scissors. What started as a love for dogs – especially my own Scotties – has grown into a career I’m incredibly proud of.
Over the years I’ve worked with every type of dog you can imagine, from tiny toy breeds to big shaggy doodles, but I’ve always had a soft spot for terriers. Grooming has taken me from the early days of training and finding my style, to competing in shows, winning awards, and eventually building my own salons – What a Clip and Skye High Grooming.
Running my own business hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been rewarding.
I’ve built lasting relationships with clients and their dogs, watched puppies grow into oldies, and shared so many special moments with families who trust me to look after their pets. Along the way, I’ve also loved creating a community – from connecting with other groomers to organising Scottie group walks across the North East.
Ten years in, I still get excited about every dog that walks through the door. Grooming isn’t just my job – it’s my passion, and I feel lucky every day to do what I love.
Tell us a little bit more about how you started with Emmi-Pet Teeth Cleaning.
And now, I’m even more excited to be expanding my services with EmmiPet ultrasonic teeth cleaning. It means I can not only make dogs look and feel their best, but also help keep them healthier and happier with better dental care – something I know my clients will really value.
Dental health is such a vital part of a dog’s wellbeing, and being able to offer a gentle, preventative treatment that can make such a difference really means a lot to me. It’s been amazing to see how quickly owners jumped at the chance to take up the new service and since releasing a “start date” for Emmipet I’ve had over £680 worth of bookings/ block bookings in under 24hrs.
When I look back at where I started and where I am now, I feel incredibly grateful. From learning my craft, doing my ICMG training, to winning awards, to running my own salon and offering specialist services like EmmiPet – it’s been an amazing journey. But at the heart of it all, my passion has never changed: it’s about the dogs, always.
